Crochet 🧶 Frank the Monster Head

I love the patterns from Cottontail and Whiskers! When I saw the ENORMOUS Frankenstein head I knew I had to give it a try. Super excited about getting started. I ordered the special eyelash yarn and thankfully it was enough! The pattern said 100g and it is was nearly the exact amount. So, I had started the hair last night and got to row 14 before I realized the directions were to double the strand! Faint. Lol. I unwound it, pulled a bunch more from the original ball to try to even it out and redid the magic ring then went to bed. I was done! This morning I got started on it again and this time I got all the way done with the hair. More to come.

Crochet 🧶 Pocket Monster

Working on this pocket monster by Cottontail and Whiskers. It’s actually my fourth one. I’ve learned a lot since the first batch which are more likely to fit in a monster size pocket! Here’s the three of them. Bangichi, with the green head, Neekhol with the purple, and Saanloron the cat lover. My current monster is very small in comparison, but the size it is intended to be.

Crochet 🧶 Peace Dove Frieda

Well, this is supposed to be a white dove, Frieda the peace dove, but I didn’t have white, so went with this golden color. The pattern design is by Wolltastisch Handmade. I think she turned out pretty well. Got to work on those lashes!

Tried this recipe from Milk recipe book.

Whipping up batch #1

I think I should refrigerate this dough for like two days before I bake them. Will definitely try it again though. The flavor and texture were great! Even the burnt bits. 😹

My Keto journal

Got started again in following a keto eating style. It is satisfying. I just need to plan better to keep food and snacks more readily available in the kitchen.

Hermies

I love these little hermit crabs! I’ve had them since 2005, so as of today they’re about 16 years old. They were little guys when I got them.

Crabitat revamp

When I got them there was little information on how to care for them. I knew they needed both fresh and salt water and a deep substrate for them to dig. I recently saw videos on different crabitats, so we upgraded and tossed in a couple deep pools. One sal ant the other fresh. Took them a few weeks, but they are loving the new place! They are now digging around and making their hidey holes, so basically redecorating.

UPDATE: I wish I had not have changed the crabitat. By doing so I took away too much space and there was no longer room for both of them to live in peace. They both died within 2 months of this extreme makeover. I think the larger one killed the smaller one as I never saw it again. One evening I saw the larger one was out of the shell and seemed out of sorts. I have a smaller tank and was going to set it up for a private space in the morning, but by morning it had crawled into the water and drowned. I imagine it was too weak to pull itself up out of it. Very sad learning experience.

Sunflowers 🌻

My cousin, Donna, sent me sunflower seeds from her garden. I tried putting them in the ground very late in the season, September, because i had never grown sunflowers and wanted to try it out.

I planted 7 seeds and ended up with 6 flowers.

This little guy was the last to pop through and the first to open.

The one next to it really liked its spot. Very tall one.

This view shows the first one that poked out in the front. It was damaged by some critter intent on having its head for supper. It did a number on it and it started to grow in a strange manner.

I discovered a baby flower growing off the backside of #1

This one is going to be HUGE! It’s the one next to #1. Not ready to bloom yet.

This little guy fell over so I tied some string around the stalk and propped it up.

#1 is looking sad, but I see the seeds starting with o take form.

The tall one has become the 4th to bloom.

Heres that little one that I had to help stand. #5 to bloom.

#5 at about six feet tall and the bees 🐝 love it!

I could not give up on this tall flower so I trussed it up and got it standing again.

Here is that poor flower that was so rudely assaulted by a caterpillar 🐛. It kept growing and eventually formed another flower bud. 💕

Finally it’s open. It had a tough life. I ended up having to use a shovel and trusses it up to it to help it along.

#5 with its head bowed and getting ready to make those wonderful seeds.

Back to #1. It’s so interesting watching as these seeds take shape.

The wind was fierce on this day and took down #5 again. It was not able to be saved again.

#5 all dried up. I’m going to use these seed to plant again in the spring

It was so fun to grow these and watch as they battled to become beautiful blooms. So fascinating.

Soap Challenge Club Ghost Swirls

This challenge was very informative in the technical aspects of soap making. We had to use no colorants yet create a design. We learned that you can change the lye concentrations and that will give different shades to the soap.

Here is my entry, I’m Naked

I think it turned out pretty well. My first attempt was not quite so good. Though it looks really cool I think I either mixed up the lye solutions or I forgot to update the soapcalc with the amount of oils. It was oily when pulled from the mold and parts of it were crumbling apart. If you look closely, the soaps are sitting in a puddle of oil. That’s just what was still oozing out after cutting them! It was a hot mess.

Soap Challenge Club | Marble or River Rock

This month’s challenge for the Soap Challenge Club was a choice between marble or river rock. I decided to try my hand with the marble. I found this picture and liked the colors of this Etowah marble, also called Georgia pink marble:

I used micas, activated charcoal, and titanium dioxide for the colors. This batch thickened up quickly so I got anxious and started to pour it as fast as possible. It turned out okay, but I had wanted to give it another go to lighten up the yellow and change up the recipe to slow it down but did not get the time. Introducing my lovely marble soap offering of the month! It smells GREAT with Nurture Soap Linden Lime Blossom fragrance. 💕

Soap Challenge 3 | In the Pot Swirl

I realized that I did not put in anything on this challenge. It was last December (2018). I poured the soap the day we went on a staycation and then brought it with me to cut.
